Cape May Area Attractions

Wheather you enjoy hanging out at the beach or like to bike, visit the zoo or go fishing, Cape May offers something for everyone.

Bike Riding Around Cape May

Cape May is well known as an ideal place for bicycling: our sea-level terrain is generally flat and easy to ride, traffic is far from aggressive and the Victorian highlights of the city’s architecture make any cruise in town definitely worth your time.

If you want to learn more about the Victorian homes and historical sites there are Cape May Bike Tour booklets available for $5. They can be picked up at the Washington Street Mall Information Booth, the Carriage House Visitors Center, the Cape May Lighthouse, or the World War II Lookout Tower.

For leisure strolls in Cape May, try riding along Sunset Boulevard, as it offers a wider shoulder for cyclists and ends at Sunset Beach. Pittsburgh Avenue has dedicated bike lanes from Texas Avenue to the beach as well.

More adventurous riders won’t be disappointed either: you can take a bike-friendly road all the way to Green Creek—an hour-long route one way, about 11 miles up the coast.  Other routes like a trip to Cape May Point—perhaps with a detour into the bike-friendly Cape May Point State Park—and the state’s Explore the Jersey Shore by Bicycle series are also popular options.

The Cape May bike rental companies go the extra mile. Both Shields’ Bike Rental and Geared Up Rentals offer complimentary delivery of your bike rental and will bring it to Beauclaires for you.

A few important Cape May biking safety tips before you pedal down our streets:

  • Under New Jersey law, anyone under 17 years of age must wear a safety helmet.
  • Bikers ride in the same direction as traffic and follow the same laws as motorists. This includes stopping at stop signs and red lights.
  • Bicycles are not allowed on the promenade after 10 a.m.
  • Please do not ride your bike on the Washington Street Mall

Have fun on your bike tour of Cape May as biking may become one of your favorite things to do.

Cape May Beaches

Cape May, New Jersey is home to some of the most beautiful beaches in the world. Beach enthusiasts are sure to fall in love with our Cape May beaches such as Higbee Beach, Sunset Beach and Poverty Beach. Our beach visitors enjoy the clean, never over-crowded atmosphere, beautiful water and groomed sand.

Due to our close proximity to the beach, guests may choose to walk to the beach and leave their vehicle parked at the property. There are not public lockers or showers in Cape May on the beach.

Beauclaires offers complimentary beach chairs, beach tags are required and can be purchased upon entrance to the beach.

Food and drinks are allowed on the beach, so you're welcome to bring a cooler or visit one of the vendors selling refreshments along Beach Avenue. Alcohol is prohibited. You're also welcome to bring a beach umbrella, beach canopy, or beach tent for daytime relaxation.

While lifeguards are on staff to protect Cape May swimmers and surfers during the summer season until 5:30 pm daily, after September 8th, lifeguards are no longer on duty again until the summer season.

Cape May Zoo

The Cape May County Zoo offers Free Admission to all regular visitors, and a schedule that offers at least five hours of time to visit year round. With over 550 animals representing 250 species in an extensive variety of natural settings, it’s easy to spend a morning or afternoon exploring all there is to see!

Their list of residents include iconic animals like the Camel, Tiger, Cheetah and Lion, along with a special “pathway to diversity” that takes visitors into the African Savanna range for Zebra, Ocelot, Ostrich and Ring-Tailed Lemurs.

At certain times during the year, you can also treat your family to a train or carousel ride during your visit! To make your outing complete, feel free to wander Central Park, which the Cape May, NJ zoo is located within—here you can find a playground, fishing pond, a disc golf course, and more!

Golfing

Beauclaires is near many Cape May golf courses that should not be missed whether you are looking for a quick par-3 course or a challenge championship 18-hole course, we have options for you!

All of these are conveniently close to Beauclaires but the Cape May National Golf Club is closest.  The Cape May Par 3 Golf Course is less than five further minutes away.  It’s a great option for beginner golfers.  Sand Barrens has been called “the closest thing you’ll find to a desert course in this part of the country”.  At 27 holes, that makes plenty enough to go around!

Movies at the Beach

Enjoy a fun night out—and an evening’s entertainment—at Cape May Movies on the Beach!  This annual program brings about eight different films to a giant blow-up movie screen in July and August each year.   Perfect for its beachside location, the classic shark thriller Jaws always gets a showing, too. Be sure to put this on the schedule for your next visit as it’s one of the most fun things to do in Cape May.

It all takes place near Cape May’s Convention Hall, just a 5-minute walk from Beauclaires, and near Henry’s on the Beach Restaurant.  Take a look at the event’s webpage for this classic event.
